Methodist Hospital—Women’s Pavilion
Offering full obstetric and maternity care, The Women’s Pavilion at Methodist Hospital delivers more than 10,000 babies a year—more than any other hospital in San Antonio. To meet the varying needs of newborns and their mothers, birthing and Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) rooms, as well as different levels of nurseries are available in our newly expanded and renovated Women’s Pavilion. Moms-to-be can tour our facility on the special Peek-A-Boo Tour and enjoy the benefits of participation in our FirstSteps childbirth and parenting education classes (free with membership in WomanPlus).
The Women’s Pavilion at Methodist Hospital offers 26 newly renovated LDR rooms, the largest area dedicated to the birthing experience in San Antonio. Other amenities include:
- Its Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is the city’s largest with 46 beds and a newborn specialist available 24-hours a day
- Its Level III nursery is the only private facility of its kind in the South Texas Medical Center
- A specially equipped and staffed antepartum unit is ready to help women who may be at risk for premature delivery or have other medical problems
- At the Women’s Pavilion at Methodist Hospital we are dedicated to caring for the whole family. We understand that the entire family may be part of the birth experience. That is why we have made all our post-partum rooms private rooms so dad, siblings, grandparents and extended family can join mom in caring for the newest family member.
- Premier 10 South special suites as a room option (currently under construction)
- Lactation experts available for in-rooms assistance
- The Women’s Pavilion at Methodist Hospital has immediate access to the Methodist Children’s Hospital of South Texas—the only hospital in San Antonio designed and built especially for children.
About Methodist Hospital
Opened in 1963, Methodist Hospital is a 672-bed, acute care, regional referral center with 2,500 employees that is the pioneer flagship hospital of the South Texas Medical Center. It is San Antonio's largest private hospital as well as the largest provider of health care to rural communities in South Texas and international patients from Mexico. Methodist's specialties include:
- Bone marrow transplant services
- Oncology
- Cardiology
- Women's Services (in the newly expanded and renovated Women's Pavilion)
- Texas Neurosciences Institute
- Orthopedics
- Gamma Knife
In late 1998, Methodist Hospital opened the Gamma Knife Center, the only one of its kind in San Antonio and South Texas. The Gamma Knife offers new radiosurgical technology designed exclusively for the non-invasive treatment of malignant and benign brain tumors, vascular malformations and other neurologic disorders.
There are multiple critical care units at Methodist: coronary care, surgical intensive care, medical intensive care and neurological intensive care as well as a highly-specialized bone marrow transplant unit. There are also intermediate critical care units for those patients requiring less intensive nursing attention.
Currently, approximately 2,000 physicians* representing virtually all-medical specialties comprise the Methodist's medical staff. It also maintains one of the highest nurse-to-patient ratios in the Southwest.
